I Did It!

That’s it — I gave notice at the end of the week.  It went very well.  People were surprised at first, but everyone seemed genuinely happy for me.  Overall, a huge relief and weight off my chest.  As expected, several people said they were jealous I was able to take this opportunity, and others opened up to me about their own frustrations with the demands of working at a large law firm.  I think word will start getting out next week so I expect a few more of these conversations.  Now that it’s done, it doesn’t feel as surreal as I thought it might.  Maybe that’s because I’ve gone through it in my head too many times. Thanks again to all for your support!

  1. That’s awesome, really glad it worked out for you! I work in Finance for a big tech company and hope to do the same in about 5.5 years.

  2. Congrats! I started reading your blog way back in ’09 when I was still in law school. You inspired me to stash cash and keep my spending down during my four years in biglaw. I’m now inhouse and will be FIRE-ing in about 4 years (current NW is about 850k). Keep us updated during your travels!

    • Wow, thanks for the comment. Glad I was able to help inspire you to pursue FIRE. You’re doing great. Try to enjoy the next 4 years practicing law. Would be curious to hear what you decide to do next!

  3. So happy for you! I’m in the midst of year-end as an accountant at a privately held company. Lord willing, there will only be eight more year-ends to go before my husband and I hit FI. Please do keep us updated; eager to live vicariously and hear if the reality lives up to the dream. 😉

  4. I was wondering if you are going to reveal your name. I was hoping it will be in this post to be honest. The reason I am asking is that I used to be an associate at two different major West Coast law firms, though I was in their Washington offices. As someone who has been reading your blog for about a year, I was really curious if we met IRL.

    • Sorry to disappoint. To be honest, I would not have any issue revealing my name in a blog that did not have such detailed information about our net worth, etc. I can see your e-mail address (which reveals your name) so I can tell you with certainty that we never crossed paths. Came pretty close though.

  5. Congrats! Your blog is an inspiration to this fellow lawyer. Looking forward to reading about your post FIRE travels and new life!

  6. Amazing and congratulations!!! I’ve been following your blog for the past couple years. I’m currently a midlevel associate in big law and hope to follow your footsteps one day!
